Matthias Garff - Refugium

July 25 – October 7, 2025

Founded in 1586, the Botanical Garden in Jena is the second oldest in Germany. In this historical and lush environment, Leipzig-based artist Matthias Garff explores the city as a refuge for species whose natural habitats are increasingly threatened by human expansion and intensive agriculture. Set within the garden’s vegetation, Refugium presents large-scale sculptures of native and invasive species that draw attention to the fragile balance between humans and wildlife.
